About the
City - Mysore :
Mysore is located in South Karnataka and hailed as the cultural capital
of the state. It has a long history and is famous for its heritage
monuments, grand palaces, classical music and exquisite handicrafts.
People from far and wide throng the city to witness the celebration of
Dasara festival, which is a feast to the eyes for those who get the
opportunity be in the city during the festivities. Mysore is also
reputed for its silk and sandalwood products.
The city was ruled by Vijayanagara emperors followed by Wodeyars.During
the regime of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, Sri Rangapatnam, located near
Mysore became the epicenter of Art and Culture and capital of political
activities. After fourth Mysore war the capital was shifted back to
Mysore. During the period between 1831 to 1881 Mysore state was
governed by the British through a resident.
Mysore is blessed with a great academic ambience with its myriad
Institutions, like University of Mysore, Regional Institute of
Education (NCERT), Central Institute of Indian Languages, Central Food
Technology Research Institute etc. IT major Infosys has recently
established its Global training centre at Mysore. Thus Mysore is
emerging into a hub of Educational, Cultural, Research and Training
activities and holds a great promise for the future .
Mysore is about 140 km from the state capital Bangalore and is well
connected by road as well as rail. It has a moderate climate throughout
the year and enriched by river Cauvery.
Places worth visiting in and around Mysore are, Main palace, Jagan
Mohan palace, Chamundi Hills, Brindavan Gardens, Sri Rangapatnam and
Rangannathittu.
Mysore makes a lasting impression on the minds of all those who visit
the city and leaves an indelible memories in their hearts.
